Nilly’s | Kirkdale London project

Nilly’s day:

In the summer of 2022 I reclaimed an ailing family business and wanted to splurge on a banging sign design. The shop has changed names over the years and as I was playing around with
some keywords in Google, I happened upon Nick Garrett’s work.

When I came across the designs Nick had created and read about him some more, I knew instantly that this was my guy.

It drips with classiness, soul, and creative flair that I felt immediately drawn to.

The name I settled on was simple and very meaningful to me – my own.

I reached out to Nick to get the ball rolling immediately and was so surprised to feel seen,
understood, and celebrated. It’s not easy to be that good! His warm way with me helped me to
see some challenges and interpret the creative solution with ease and mastery.

The day of the sign painting, I spent the whole time watching Nick & Seraina paint and
documenting the experience; it’s a memory I’ll always cherish. To witness a genius at work is an
experience never to be missed, I was blessed to get this rare chance with Nick.

I consider my shop’s sign a work of art and this gives me perpetual joy whenever I see it or
customers / passers by stop me to share their delight.

Nick Garrett is a true master and one I’ve had the honour and privilege to witness his craft in
motion. I look forward to working with him again in future pursuits.

‘Nick worked with us for many years’

… about ten years ago; working closely with Tricia Guild and myself in producing specially painted antique furniture. Nick was provided with specific fabric swatches and left to his own devices in producing pieces which worked perfectly to the colour briefs. His ability to produce work that was in perfect compatibility to our textile colours and the ‘look’ of the collection was inspiring and sold very well.

Nick therefore had great creative input into the look of the furniture at the time of our London Store and very much involved in the creative process.

”Zucono is a shop with a unique personality in a unique location. Our product is artisan gelato, Italian ice cream hand-made in small batches following the traditional method.

We wanted the sign for our shop front to represent all of this: uniqueness, tradition re-discovered, timeless style and quality.

Nick interpreted this brief with exceptional results: working from our design he was able to suggest improvements and deliver a genuinely hand-drawn sign that immediately stands out compared with anything else I have seen, while still looking ‘classic’.

What’s more, it didn’t break the bank and the whole job was done very quickly and without fuss.

I would certainly recommend his work and will use him again.
