We have a complete inventory stock of much loved conservation ranges of classical London lettering and numeral styles. A collection started by my grandfather in 1986.
All original styles, continue to be gathered from around town, spanning 4 decades.

BY-HAND & AUTHENTIC IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY.
We never use commercial fonts… they’re not of the standard that we demand. So we make our own.
Our custom lettering designs are making people, known and even famous today, across all London. Garnered from hundreds of our bespoke crafted projects.
Historic painted numbers meticulously restored by us, into sets of museum quality architectural alphabets.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Each of the house numbers and titles on this page have a story to tell. Most have been created from examples found fading away, on beautifiul old London locations.
Rekindled from aged examples, still discoverable around town: these rare examples are rapidly vanishing under the strain of constant redevelopment, yet remain pretty much our sacred vintage examples.
We bring them home by either taking tracings or detailed images: These are then restored in our studio, exactly as per the hand of the original artists, and kept in our font archive to use on your projects.
All artworks or fonts are made for each project… rest assured your artwork will be absolutely unique to your home.

3 GENERATIONS OF LETTERING PRACTICE
My gilding and signwriting career started when I was 15, apprenticed with the incredibly talented Battersea sign and poster writer Andrew Whitmore who’s words and brush strokes still fill my mind every time I climb the ladder and load the brush for you.

After 5 years of intense training I started working with all of the major London breweries and found success, along with some great friends. I owe it all to my family and teacher.

Letter-cutters uncle Hugh and grandfather Francis Baker shaped my practice. Their work is found on many important memorials across London. NGS are beneficactors of the memorial below.

NGS’s Seraina Baumgartner (the one chewing her brush!) hails from Zurich, joining me as a full time sign painter and gilder in 2019.
With a background in fine art, screen printing, design management and graphic signage, she has a superb eye for clarity and detail.
