Starting out – always an artist
I graduated from UCLA with first class honours, as portrait painter in 1981 and started my first sign shop out of my art studio, Garrett Fine Signs, Battersea.
Training
I really enjoyed working in hand drawn poster writing, graphics and typography and fast became hooked on it training with Andy Whitmore for a year.
Growing my studio
Going on my own and making some cold calls and quickly won some great clients, who are still good buddies today.

EARLY DAYS
Leaving art college I found myself specialising in creative sign writing (from 1984-1990), to 2 national Breweries creating thousands of pub signs.
Through a lot of soul searching and hard work I was being regarded as a top quality writer… though for me it was always more of a constant battle for perfection.
Today a resurgence in signwriting
The photo above shows what happens when i finish a hand painted sign. It never happens when vinyl is stuck up… how can it? This moment of pure joy is exactly why I go up the ladder for you (even when it’s freezing the ass off London!).
A hand painted sign speaks volumes for most quality niche products and will genuinely build loyal business turnover – the lifeblood of retail success.
It says many things especially attention to detail... and commitment.
… the magical ingredient you get when hiring NGS hand written sign writing is quality communication.
